THREE Aberystwyth charities have shared over £1,800 after receiving money raised by the Co-op’s membership scheme.

The Aberystwyth branch of Riding for the Disabled, Penparcau’s Jubilee Storehouse foodbank and the Starkies Luncheon Club were given funding from the scheme which sees money going to local good causes when Co-op members buy own-brand products from Co-op stores.

Sue Wright, the secretary of Riding for the Disabled, said the funding would help promote the Aberystwyth branch of the charity by producing leaflets which will also call for volunteers to be trained and help provide activities including riding, show jumping and assault course activities, as well as replace some of the older equipment.

There was also a charity donation at the Machynlleth Co-op, where £3,582 went to Machynlleth Community Children’s Project, £3,398 to Cylch Meithrin Machynlleth and £3,602 to CAMAD - a total of £10,582.

And the Co-operative stores in Llanidloes handed money over to Llanidloes Hospital League of Friends (£2,369), Friends of Llanidloes County Primary School (£2,213), Llanidloes Rotary Club £2,103 for the community centre roof repairs).
