An actor from Llanystumdwy will star in a brand new series starting this week which has already made broadcasting history.
Sion Pritchard plays Clive in the S4C series, Rybish, the first series to be completed during Covid lockdown.
Production of the comedy drama was brought to a halt in March by the coronavirus crisis but, undeterred, production company Cwmni Da created a bubble for the cast and crew and carried on. When not working, they were holed up in an empty pub, The Beuno, in Clynnog Fawr on the north coast of the Ll?n Peninsula.
Commenting on the show, Sion, who has appeared in Dim Ond y Gwir, Bang and Pili Pala, and has also appeared in comedies Ar y Tracs (S4C) and Tourist Trap (BBC Wales) said: “Clive is the boss at the recycling centre, and he’s quite new there.
“Eurwyn, the older member of staff likes to remind him of the old boss.
“Clive isn’t keen on working – if he had a motto, it would be ‘work smart not hard!’
“You can often find him with his feet up on the table and a newspaper in his hands! He likes to think he’s the main man!”
Of filming in lockdown, he said: “It was really interesting; we filmed the first half before the lockdown, and then for the second half all the production team and actors were in a bubble for three weeks.
“It was filmed using fixed rig cameras, secured in the corners of the recycling centre’s porta cabin. It’s quite different to how things are usually filmed, with four cameras and you’re not sure which one is one whom.
“It was a lot of fun, and we just carried on portraying our characters without worrying about other technical stuff which we usually have to think about.
“It felt quite strange arriving at an old recycling centre in the middle of Snowdonia, to see someone in full PPE taking your temperature.”
He added: “I think people will enjoy seeing normal people trying their best to do as little work as possible – there’s something so honest about the programme!”
The six-part series will be screened on S4C with the first episode this Friday, 30 October, at 9pm.
