BARMOUTH Town Council has presented awards to people in the town as thanks for their contributions to the area.

Barmouth Town Council present awards annually to members of the community who have provided exceptional service or made an exceptional contribution to the community.

The Community Award for 2020/2021 was presented to Michael Day for his contribution through Barmouth in Bloom to the flower beds and planting around Barmouth.

An Outstanding Bravery Award was presented to Kane Triggs, Jordan Hewlett and Alex Hill for their efforts during a sea rescue and medical incident on Barmouth beach in August last year.

Cllr Katie Price, who was mayor when the awards were given out before her term ended, explained how the awards began and why the council felt it was important to reward people in the local area.

She said: “Barmouth Town Council started presenting these awards a few years ago as we felt that it was important to recognise support and achievements within our local community.

“Michael Day has contributed to most, if not all, of the green spaces in Barmouth; it’s a hidden job that he just ‘gets on with!

“Individual awards were also given to Kane Triggs, Jordan Hewlett and Alex Hill for outstanding bravery.

“They all provided immediate first aid including CPR and assistance during a tragic event on Barmouth beach last August.”

The council also gave thanks to others who helped during that incident.

Cllr Price added: “Other agencies - RNLI, HM Coastguard, North Wales Police and the ambulance service - were also involved on the day and our thanks do go to those as well.”
