Bridge Club
WITH an impressive 71.4 per cent, winners were Herbie Rowley and Nigel Symons Jones. Mike Fellows and Lee Collier were second and Keith Bellamy and Gill Howells third.
On Wednesday, Lee Collier explained how competitive bidding has evolved from 4-card majors and Weak No Trumps as players recognised the advantages of 5-card majors and Strong No Trumps. By using transfers or 5-card and then 4-card Stayman, both 5-3 and 4-4 major suit fits can be identified. She also covered Bergen Raises, in which artificial bids of the minors at the three level indicate 4-card raises of opener’s major suit.
They will continue the theme next Wednesday.
