Aeron Valley Railway Society

MEMBERS of the AVRS were very pleased to give a welcome back to the Legion Hall on Wednesday evening to Emyr Phillips. Emyr gave an illustrated talk on the history of the Maenclochog Railway and its later extension to Fishguard. He included a film made in 1992 by local schoolchildren who re-enacted important events in the line’s history. The evening’s events proved to be as interesting as they were informative and we look forward to welcoming Emyr back in the future. Next month’s meeting will be at the usual time of 7.30pm on Wednesday, 20 March, in the Royal British Legion Hall, Victoria Street when they will be entertained by Andrew Charman speaking about Narrow Gauge Railways, both recording and reporting. Members, prospective members and guests will all be welcome.

Bridge club

WINNERS on 21 February were Dai Hayes and Ron Jones, with John Valentine and Mike Jones second and Keith Bellamy and Gill Howells third. With three North/South pairs bidding a 6 Hearts slam on Board 3, John and Mike playing East/ West rightly judged that 6 Spades would not go too far off. They conceded only 200 points against the 980 points that the opposition would have earned for making their 6 Hearts slam. Dylan Raw-Rees and Jen Harris were the only ones to bid and make 6 Hearts on a later board. Aberaeron Bridge Club meets in the Royal British Legion Hall each Thursday at 6.40pm – newcomers are eagerly welcomed. Afternoon tuition for beginners and improvers is being held on Wednesdays starting at 1pm in the Royal British Legion Hall. For further information on attending either on Wednesday or Thursday, phone Gill Howells on 01239 811718 or email info@ gillhowells.com
