Bridge Club

IN a close contest, the winners on 21 March were Keith Bellamy and Gill Howells, with Dylan Raw-Rees with Mike Fellows second and Alan Stein and Mike Jones third.

On 17 March, Keith and Gill, representing Aberaeron Bridge Club, came fourth out of 24 pairs in the Champion of Champions trophy in Llandrindod in which the Champion Pairs from clubs in Wales competed against each other.

Dai Hayes and Andrew Davies, representing Lampeter Bridge Club, also did Ceredigion proud by coming fifth.

It is worth noting that the only pairs above these two pairs consisted of grandmasters from South Wales clubs. All but one pair bid a slam in this event on Board 16.

When West was declarer, there were 13 tricks available without using the spades suit, but one unlucky declarer in 7 No Trumps in the East position had the lead of the Ace of Spades, going down immediately.

Aberaeron Bridge Club meets in the Royal British Legion Hall each Thursday at 6.40pm – newcomers are eagerly welcomed.

Afternoon tuition for beginners and improvers is being held on Wednesdays starting at 1pm in the Royal British Legion Hall. For further information on attending either on Wednesday or Thursday, phone Gill Howells on 01239 811718 oror email info@ gillhowells.com
