On one hand, West opened 1 No Trump and East had 13 points so bid 3 No Trumps despite his singleton Spade. A club was led but when the defenders got in, they switched to Spades. With three Spades to the King, West feared that his King would be swallowed up by the Ace, so ducked twice. Alas, South had deceptively underled from her Ace so declarer’s King was gobbled up by the Ace on the third round, the contract going off by three tricks.

Aberaeron Bridge Club continues to meet in the Royal British Legion Hall each Thursday at 6.40 pm. For further information, please ring Gill Howells on 01239 811718 or email [email protected].
