Choral concert
On Tuesday, 30 October, the churchwardens and congregation of St Peter’s Church were privileged to host the Voskresenije (Resurrection) choir from St Petersburg conducted by Jurij Maruk.
The choir performed an extensive programme of choral works ranging from sacred music to Russian folk songs. An audience of over 80 people were treated to some of the best-loved music exquisitely performed by a world-class ensemble in a beautiful Welsh village church.
The choir, which was founded in St Petersburg by Jurij Maruk in 1993, has toured extensively throughout Europe to critical acclaim and has recorded several CDs of their most popular music, including arrangements of Burns songs arranged by John McIntosh.
Voskresenije is currently on a two-month tour with a very full schedule of 60 concerts at churches in England, Scotland and Wales.
When in Aberdyfi, the choir members were made very welcome by local people being invited to lunch at a local restaurant and offered overnight accommodation with local families.
St Peter’s churchwarden David Rynn was delighted to announce that the choir had also arranged to visit Aberdyfi again on their next visit to the UK with a concert at St Peter’s Church on 7 November, 2019.
