Cylch Cinio

Ar Nos Wener, 13 Gorffennaf aeth aelodau o’r Cylch Cinio ar eu trip blynyddol.

Roedd yn noson fendigedig o haf a’r galwad cyntaf oedd ymweliad â Chaws Teifi a’r fferm Glynhynod, Llandysul.

Cafodd yr aelodau eu croesawi a’u tywys o amgylch y lle gan un o gyfarwyddwyr y cwmni sef Robert-Jan Savage-Onstwedder, mab y sylfaenydd John Savage-Onstwedder.

Diddorol oedd clywed hanes sefydlu’r cwmni yn 1982 a’r freuddwyd o fod yn organig a defnyddio llaeth amrwd a chynhwysion lleol ar gyfer gwneud caws crefftwyr o safon uchel. Mae’r caws wedi ennill nifer o wobrau dros y blynyddoedd.

Ochr arall o’r busnes yw distyllu gan ddechrau yn 2012 ar y fferm, ond roedd wedi dechrau nôl yn 1992 wrth holi cwmni o’r Alban wneud wisgi DàMhìle (Gaeleg am 2000) organic cyntaf yn y byd ar gyfer y mileniwm.

Allan o 15 baril mae yna bump ar ôl ac erbyn hyn yn gasgladwy iawn.

Erbyn nawr mae’r cwmni yn cynhyrchu diodydd wisgi a gin organig ar y safle .

Mae mynd o amgylch digwyddiadau a marchnadoedd yn bwysig iawn i’r busnes ac mae’n dda i’w gweld ym marchnad y ffermwyr yn Aberystwyth.

Diolchwyd am y croeso ac am gael blasu’r caws a’r gin. Gwnaeth nifer fawr o’r aelodau achub ar y cyfle i wneud bach o siopa!

Ymlaen wedyn i’r Daffodil ym Mhenrhiwllan lle’r oedd y darlledwr adnabyddus Sulwyn Thomas yn aros yn eiddgar amdanom.

Mae’n anodd credu bod rhaglen Stondin Sulwyn a oedd yn un o raglenni mwyaf poblogaidd BBC Radio Cymru wedi dod i ben yn 2002. Mae Sulwyn yn weithgar iawn yn ei gymuned ac yn un o sefydlwyr Radio Glangwili.

Mae hefyd yn weithgar gyda Llyfrau Llafar Cymru ac roedd yn braf bod y cylch yn medru cyfrannu at yr achos teilwng yma sydd yn darparu llyfrau sain.

Roedd gwrando ar storiâu Sulwyn yn donic a tybed pwy sydd yn cofio am y testun o’r Eisteddfod yn mynd i’r America yn cael ei drafod ar y stondin.

Diolchodd y cadeirydd i’r holl swyddogion am eu cymorth yn ystod y flwyddyn a aeth heibio gan ddymuno yn dda i’r cadeirydd newydd, sef Dr Richard Edwards.

Bydd y cylch unwaith eto yn cyfrannu £100 yr un i’r papurau bro lleol, ac edrychir ymlaen at gyflwyno’r gadair i’r Eisteddfod Genedlaethol pan ddaw i Dregaron yn 2020.

Diolchwyd i staff y Daffodil am y croeso a’r pryd blasus iawn ac i Dai Davies, gyrrwr cwmni Mid Wales Travel am eu tywys.

Edrychir ymlaen at flwyddyn lwyddiannus unwaith eto dan ofal Dr Richard Edwards.

Bydd seibiant nawr dros fis Awst a bydd y cyfarfod nesaf ym mis Medi.

Erbyn hyn mae dros 40 o aelodau yn y Cylch. Beth am ymuno ym mis Medi?

Cambrian Floral Society

July is the month for a garden visit, and this year members returned to Pixie Harcourt’s magnificent garden at Llangeler on 4 July.

Despite the very hot weather the garden looked amazing and, since last year, Pixie had erected an insect hotel together with a home for three hedgehogs which she had re-homed.

After wandering through the different sections of her garden, they were entertained to a wonderful afternoon tea on the lawn.

John James, chairman, thanked Pixie for having members visit again this year and, to show their appreciation, presented her with an orchid on behalf of the society.

On Sunday, 5 August, an afternoon of entertainment will be held at the bandstand on the promenade.

Music will be provided by a local harpist and John James will give a series of flower-arranging demonstrations during the afternoon.

Teas including scones, Welsh cakes and bara brith will be served from 1pm. Entrance to include tea is £3.50 and a warm welcome is extended to all.

Rotary club

THE guest speaker at the Rotary Club’s lunchtime meeting on 17 July was Pat Sani, joint president of the Aberystwyth Inner Wheel.

Her topic was ‘Below the top of the world: Ice and Snow’, and she gave an account of her visit to the Himalaya, supported by some striking photography.

Her journey took her to Kathmandu and neighbouring townships with their unique architecture and social atmosphere, where yaks are used to carry personal baggage of mountaineers and walkers.

On her 40-mile trek, she visited a Buddhist monastery and relics, a memorial to Tenzing Norgay and a school named after Edmund Hillary, to commemorate their feat in climbing Everest in 1953.

There were breathtaking views of the continuously moving glaciers, of snow-capped Himalayan mountains with their deep gorges and cliff-side tracks.

Club president Michael Deaville thanked Pat Sani for her talk and for “taking members to places that others had not ventured to” .

The club is holding a lunchtime barbecue at Aberystwyth Rugby Club on Sunday, 29 July, jointly with the Inner Wheel. The proceeds of the barbecue will go towards an international charity, supporting an AIDS orphanage in South Africa.

Tickets are available from the Rotary Club at £15 each.

All money collected will be match-funded by the European Union. For more information on Aberystwyth Christian Aid, call Rev Adrian Williams, the local Christian Aid secretary, on 01970 12500.

Aberystwyth-Esquel Peoples in Partnership Association

THE association organised an event on Saturday, 7 July, in the National Library of Wales in connection with the library’s exhibition celebrating the centenary of the birth of Welsh painter Sir Kyffin Williams, with an emphasis on his links to Patagonia and to the Welsh community in the Wladfa.

After lunch in Caffi Pendinas, members proceeded to the Council Chamber, where, after a warm welcome by Mercedes Mills (secretary) and an introduction by Prof Stephen Tooth (chair) outlining the aims both of the association and of this event in particular, members of staff of the National Library took over.

The association thanked Lorna Mason, Siân Jones, Siân Bowyer and Morfudd Jones, who took turns to explain the long-standing connection between the National Library and Kyffin as well as aspects of his work and technique, which were explained in more detail as they progressed through the exhibition.

The importance of Sir Kyffin’s visit to Patagonia in 1968 was highlighted, and the important effect it had on his work, causing him to change the colours in his palette, as he found that the colours he used to paint in Wales were not adequate to represent the more vivid, less sombre ones he found in Patagonia. During the event the association held a collection in aid of the Library’s Kyffin: Framing the Future fund.
