MEMBERS of an Aberystwyth rock music project have shown their hard work has paid off with their first live gig at an Aberystwyth pub.
Members of The Rock Project Encore took to the stage of the Castle Hotel on Friday, 14 December, playing a range of rock anthems from legendary artists such as Tom Petty and the Rolling Stones.
Over 10 members of the group took part in the gig to entertain the crowd with what they learnt from weekly sessions run at Aberystwyth’s St Padarn’s primary school.
Lisa Wordley, who organises the project, has run a range of sessions for youngsters aged between seven and 18 before launching the Encore project for adults after increased demand from adult learners. The sessions see a team of professional gigging musicians teach the over-18 learners to play guitar, bass and drums, and sing vocals.
Lisa said: “The concert was a big moment in the musical lives of many of our students because some them have never performed publicly before and may have only been playing an instrument for a short period of time.
“Rock Project Encore is for all abilities, from people who want to learn to play to those who play regularly but want to join a band of their own.
“What they all have in common is the desire to make the best use of their professional tuition from gigging musicians and then perform publicly as a band.”
