AS usual the meeting was opened by the president Jacqui Puddle, with Meirion sung with the usual gusto, accompanied by Blodwen Comerford on the piano.

The speaker Kirstie Lumsdon gave a very interesting talk and power point presentation about her trip to Tanzania and her ascent to the summit of Kilimanjaro (5,895 metres). This was an expedition in memory of her brother and in aid of the Lullaby Trust, a charity that aims to help reduce the risk of sudden cot deaths, support families and fund research. Kirstie raised almost £6,000.

Because of this experience, Kirsty is now a volunteer with the local mountain rescue team.

Val gave thanks to Kirsty for a most enlightening 40 minutes.

Hearty congratulations were given to WI member Ann Vaughan Jones who received a civic award from outgoing mayor, Rob Triggs. This was for her work over the past 30 years with Guides, Brownies and Rainbows.

The ladies of Barmouth WI are joining in the project that is underway at Bangor Cathedral to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1918 Armistice and to remember the 40,000 men and women from Wales who died in World War I.

This month’s competition was ‘Favourite Holiday Souvenirs’. The winner was Pam with a glass bottle filled with multi coloured sand from Egypt and second, Pauline Owen with a large decorated egg.

Pat won the raffle, Wendy the flowers.

Jacqui thanked the hostesses Geraldine, Geinor and Liz for their delicious cakes.

The next meeting is on Wednesday 27 June at 7pm in the Arts Room at the Dragon Theatre. The Speaker will be Diana Tregenza talking about ‘Beach Coast Guardians.’
