Bowls
DESPITE the vagaries of the British summer, the bowling green has held-up extremely well due to the excellent work of contractors and club members who have worked tirelessly to maintain the playing surface and surrounding areas, not an easy task given the high temperatures and incessant sunshine.
Thanks go to all concerned.
On 7 July, in delightful weather, the Ron Barnard Shield was played for and won by the club’s chairman, Ron Harrison.
The runner-up was club treasurer, Pam Payton.
On 14 July, Pam Payton and Vic Tritton, club president, narrowly beat Anita Gatehouse and Meirion Roberts into second place in the mixed doubles match, on yet another sunny day.
On 21 July, it was the return of the local derby challenge at Fairbourne, who won the first leg.
The phrase “sun stopped play” is probably the least likely one to be used but on this occasion, Fairbourne’s green had succumbed to this phenomenon.
It was quickly agreed that the event take place at Barmouth.
Once again Fairbourne won the day with an overall score of 13.5 to 9.5.
Not only did they beat Barmouth, they brought their wonderful tea party and raffle prizes across the estuary.
It was a wonderful afternoon with good-humoured camaraderie all round.
Nevertheless, the coveted trophy now resides in Fairbourne, much to Barmouth’s chagrin.
Next season perhaps?
August looks promising since the recent wet weather has provided much-needed moisture to a very thirsty bowling green.

Dolgellau and Barmouth Hospital League of Friends
THE Barmouth branch would like to thank everyone who donated goods for the table top sale, which raised £315.
This could not have been achieved without their generosity.
