THE latest community news from Barmouth
Community trust
ON Thursday 18 July, Barmouth Community Trust will holds its second open day in the Dragon Theatre.
Come along to the Arts Room between 10am and 7pm to see and hear about their projects, including plans for the Dora building and progress on the harbour pontoon reinstallation.
Sailors’ Institute
THE Barmouth Sailors’ Institute annual fundraising coffee morning is to be held on Thursday, 25 July in the Dragon Theatre Arts Room from 10am to noon.
Their many very loyal supporters will realise it is later in the month than usual. This is to accommodate the Royal Commission on Ancient and Historical Monuments in Wales who wish to visit again with their scanning equipment. Their First World War U-boat project has been a great success and many explanatory panels have been created by maritime museums up and down the country. They all share very interesting stories of local history and facets of the war previously unknown to many people; the part women played, nurses on ships, conditions on board, to mention a few.
There will be 10 such panels on display for the month of August beginning with the coffee morning. Some are from local museums: Porthmadog, Nefyn etc. Four will be in the Reading Room of the Sailors’ Institute and Allison has allowed six to be displayed in the Dragon Theatre. They are well worth browsing.
The Royal Commission is very keen to document any material you may have, no matter how small, and would appreciate you bringing it along to the coffee morning.
As usual, there will be a cake stall with local artisan bread, hopefully some fresh vegetables, a table-top sale and of course a raffle, without which no Sailors’ Institute coffee morning would be right.
The committee look forward to welcoming people on Thursday, 25 July, at 10am.
