AT THE July meeting, president Mari O’ Rourke welcomed everyone, and informed them that sadly Christine Hemsley, the federation secretary, had passed away after a short illness. A minute’s silence was held to honour her memory.
Mari reported that members that played Boccia and New Age Kurling at Llanelltyd Village Hall on the recent Healthy Living Day, and had a very enjoyable afternoon.
Pam and Pauline were runners up in the Crown Green Bowls competition on 1 July at Tywyn. They usually play flat green bowls so their success was well deserved.
Unfortunately, the Treasure Hunt scheduled for 17 July had to be cancelled due to the weather.
Rose reported that all Barmouth WI’s entries for the County Show on 28 August are ready and the catering teams are well prepared.
The next Dining Out evening will be on 13 September and Christine has arranged for diners to eat at 1957 at Islawrffordd Caravan Park, Talybont.
At the July meeting the committee decided that the entertainment would be playing charades. There was a great deal of laughter.
Mari thanked the committee for the excellent refreshments.
Rosemary won the raffle and Joan took the flowers home.
The next meeting is on 25 September when Daryl James will be demonstrating creative metal craft. The competition is an unusual metal object.
New members always welcome. Meetings take place on the third Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm in the Dragon Theatre.
Sailors’ Institute
THE recent coffee morning raised £265 for the Institute’s. Thanks go to all the loyal members and visitors for their generosity.
The Royal Commission of Ancient and Historical Monuments Wales exhibition panels on WW1 U-Boat activity around Wales, attracted quite a lot of interest. These panels will now be available for viewing until 1 September in the Dragon Theatre Arts Room and the Sailors’ Institute Reading Room.
In addition, when Allison is showing a Dragon Theatre film, there will be short information films provided by the Royal Commission on the project, before the start of the big film.
Mawddach Art Group
FROM 11am to 4.30pm, Tuesdays to Sundays, from 6 to 31 August, the group is exhibiting at St John’s Hall Barmouth.
