Girlguiding

BARMOUTH Girlguiding recognised the amazing contribution that Anne Vaughan-Jones has made to Guiding in Barmouth and all over the country.

Anne was presented with a bouquet of flowers and had a party to celebrate 60 years of being a leader within Girlguiding.

Anne is currently a leader with the Rainbows, who organised the party for her with a special cake, decorations and balloons.

Over the years she has lead all the different groups, Brownies, Guides from and Rangers.

She still helps out when an extra pair of hands is needed in any group.

The units meet in the schoolroom at Christchurch (pictured Adele’s flower shop) and offer a safe environment for girls to meet, learn new skills, have fun and contribute to the community.

The Rainbows will be holding a cake stall at the Christmas market to raise funds.

Girlguiding has changed hugely over the 60 years Anne has been involved moving from the traditional ‘girls skills’ of cooking and sewing to cover a range of skills; this year the girls have been learning DIY skills, building towers out of fruit and veg, learning sign language, becoming aware of the environmental impact of plastic as well as going away on holiday together and toasting marshmallows over a fire – some things never change.

The girls can still work to get interest badges but they now include mindfulness and vlogging so they can look after themselves mentally and stay safe online).
