Blaenau in Bloom
The 14th year of the Blaenau in Bloom competition awards ceremony took place on Sunday and David Williams and Eurwyn Roberts thanked everyone who had entered the event.
They also congratulated the gardeners for coping with a hard winter followed by the hot, dry conditions.
The commercial category winner was Isallt; large gardens, Allan Cotton; small gardens, Douglas Hughes; containers, Martin Couture; vegetable garden, Patrick Murphy; wildlife garden, Martin Couture.
The new hanging baskets category was won by K Boccato and the Overall winner was Martin Couture.

Choir
Côr Rhiannedd y Moelwyn, conducted by Sylvia Ann Jones and accompanist Awen Roberts, were among the artists who took part in a repeated Noson Lawen programme shown on S4C on Saturday evening.
Gallery
The exhibition of drawings by Falcon Hildred which has been on show at the Maenofferen Gallery since June will end this weekend.
This will be followed by an exhibition of the creative work of Sian Northey, Mari Gwent, and pupils of Bro Hedd Wyn, Manod and Moelwyn schools.
Angling
The Cambrian Angling Association’s competition for fly fishermen took place at Gamallt Lake
The winner of the Emrys Evans Memorial Cup was Calvin Williams with four fish at 2lbs 2ozs.
In second place was Euron Ll Roberts with two at 1lbs 4ozs; and Bernie Bartram third with an 8oz fish.
Siarad
The monthly meeting of Siop Siarad, the local social group for Welsh learners and speakers, will be held at 11am on Saturday, 28 July, at the Bridge Café.
All are welcome to attend for an informal chat over a cup of coffee and a cake.
Rhoddion
Cafwyd rhoddion o £600 er cof am y diweddar Edward John (Llechwedd) Jones o 1 Belle Vue, Tanygrisiau, at Ambiwlans Awyr Cymru.
Bowls
The Blaenau Bowling Club drew 5-5 with Rhos Park, A but lost the aggregate by two.
Their winners were Dylan Vaughan, R Elwyn Jones, Aled Owen, Emlyn Williams and Mike Burgoyne.
Two of the club’s senior players Dafydd Hughes and R Elwyn Jones will be in the Gwynedd Veterans side who will take on Deeside Veterans at Penyffordd on Monday, 13 August.
