Choirs
MOELWYN Choir performed at Betws y Coed on Friday evening conducted by Sylvia Ann Jones and accompanist Wenna Francis Jones and the compere was Dafydd Chilton.
During the evening the choir chairman Idris Roberts presented Medwyn Hughes of the Wales Air Ambulance with a £1,000 cheque the proceeds of the raffles the choir did during last year’s concerts at Betws y Coed.
Also, Laura Raymond was present to record the choir for a BBC Wales programme which can be heard at 5pm next Sunday.
Easter Fun
BY ALL accounts the recent Easter Good Friday event was enjoyed by all who either took part or just attended.
There was good variety of things going on from an Easter Bonnet Parade, tea and treats marquee, foot plate rides, arts and crafts activities for the children, an Easter egg hunt, entertainment, stalls and much more.
The organisers were Grandma’s Attic, Ffestiniog Railway and the Blaenau Bendigedig Group.
Opra
IT’S 10 years since opera company OPRA Cymru was formed here in Blaenau and they held a special concert at Ysgol y Moelwyn on Tuesday evening to mark its anniversary year presented by well known broadcaster Hywel Gwynfryn.
The cast included members of the local Rhiannedd y Moelwyn ladies choir and they also performed at Bangor on the previous Thursday night and at Aberystwyth on Saturday evening and have another performance at Rhos, Wrexham on 9 May.
Also taking part was trumpet player Ceris Jones, who is a member of the Oakeley Silver Band, who gives a fanfare during the opera.
Promotion
AFTER some late results fell in their favour it has been confirmed that Blaenau Amateurs FC have been promoted to the Welsh Alliance Division 1 next season and can look forward to playing local teams such a Penrhyndeudraeth, Barmouth and Llanrwst.
Railway line progress
FOLLOWING the severe flooding which damaged the Conwy Valley railway line, there will be no trains running for some time as the repair work continues but bus services are in their place.
This Thursday evening between 4pm and 7pm Network Rail will be holding a community drop-in event at the local Town Council Chambers, 5, High Street where the project team will be on hand to answer any questions and to provide a progress up date on the work to restore the line.
No appointment is needed to attend.
Bowls
BLAENAU bowling team were beaten 9-3 at Conwy in a North Wales League A match with Adam Hyde, Stephen Jones and Jason Hughes their winners.
They are home to Beaumais A this Saturday.
Stephen Jones and Mike Burgoyne were members of the Môn Menai side that beat Bolton in a county match on Sunday.
Awards
IN the Bala FC Academy awards two local players were named with Sion Sullivan the Manager’s Player of the Year and Cian Williams receiving the best goalkeeper award.
