BOWYDD: United chapels service with Rhian Williams.

Bowls

THE bowling club had a fine 11-1 home win against a weakened Beaumaris A side in a North Wales League A match. Their winners were Adam Hyde, Iwan, Ken, Dylan, Elwyn, Stephen Jones, Dafydd and Jason Hughes.

They are at Pemaenmawr this Saturday and have been drawn against Criccieth in four home and four away Gwynedd Cup tie to be played on 16 May.

AN exhibition by Remy Dean is on show at the Maenofferen Gallery until 7 June and admission is free during the library’s opening hours.

Band

ON Saturday evening at Ysgol y Moelwyn, the Oakeley Band, under their new conductor Aled Williams, performed a tribute concert to their former conductor John Glyn Jones (pictured) for his distinguished service to the band and the local brass instrument students of the local schools.

Joining the band were some of John’s favourite artistes namely Rhys Meirion and his accompanist Eirian Owen and Côr Ieuenctid Môn conducted by Mari Lloyd Pritchard and the evening compère was Delyth Grey.

John Glyn was also presented with an englyn composed by Iwan Morgan and engraved on a metal plate.

Butcher

AFTER many years as a butcher locally, Dafydd Edwards closed his business on the High Street at the weekend.

On leaving school he worked for 16 years at the John Roberts butchers and then a change as he became a security at the MOD base at Betws y Coed before opening his own butcher business in April 2010.

He has also been an on-call firefighter for 26 years and now he is leaving his business to join another emergency service by becoming an urgent care assistant with the ambulance service and will be based at Bala, but before then he will be attending an eight-week training course at Swansea and is wished every success in his new post.

Works

THERE were delays on part of the A470 through the town for a few days as work was carried out on the water system in the 56 to 68 High Street area and traffic lights were in place while the work was carried out.

Trains

MANY local people visited the Council Chambers on Thursday last as a project team from the Conwy Valley rail line were on hand to answer any questions and provided a progress report on the work to restore the line after the recent severe flooding which caused severe damage to the line.

Cymdeithas Bro

THE English section of Cymdeithas Bro Ffestiniog will end their season with an outing to the Maritime Museum at Porthmadog at 6pm this Thursday to be followed with a meal at the Spooners Restaurant at 7.30pm.

There will be a break for the members before the next round of meetings gets under way in September.
