Choir
THE Moelwyn Male Voice Choir, conducted by Sylvia Ann Jones and accompanist Wenna Francis Jones, were in concert at Betws y Coed on Friday evening, with Gareth Griffiths acting as the compère.
On Saturday evening members enjoyed their annual dinner at The Chwarelwr in Blaenau.
Festival
THE Summer Festival/G?yl Car Gwyllt will be held at the rugby club on 5 and 6 July and not in the park as was initially stated.
Town council
THE council has made an application to the Lottery for grant money towards the costs of placing defibrillators at Tanygrisiau and Manod.
A council committee discussed monthly playground reports and also considered purchasing into Playquest’s maintenance programme for equipment on Cae Manod playing field. The committee resolved to accept the reports but not to buy into the maintenance programme.
The council is to accept a quote of £219.41 from O G Williams for a water dispersal system suitable for the waterfall at the Diffwys fountain.
CCTV cameras on the park pavilion have been damaged, it was reported. So many stones have been thrown into the guttering that the brackets holding it in place were unable to support its weight, the council heard, leading to its collapse and damage to the cameras. The council will now have to arrange for new cameras to be installed and to repair the guttering.
A service to light the Remembrance Tree at Diffwys will be held in November.
The town council will to ask Gwynedd Council regarding the provision of equipment to light the tree during the ceremony and to buy suitable lights nearer the time.
The council has received confirmation that the transfer of land at Penybryn, Cae Baltic, from Gwynedd Council to the town council has been completed.
Blaenau in Bloom
THE organisers are hoping for good weather and plenty of entries for what is the 15th year of the annual competition.
A new hanging baskets class was trialled last year and proved so popular that it will joins the existing house classes of large, small, containers, vegetables and wildlife, as well as the commercial category.
Entry is free. Forms are available at Hen Bost and Eifion Stores. The closing date for entries is 29 June, with judging on 4 July and the awards on 27 July.
Moelwyn Fell Race
THE race will take place on 25 May.
Hundreds of runners have already entered what will be a British Championship race, starting from Diffwys at 2pm and ending at Bro Ffestiniog Rugby Club ground Dolawel.
The main organisers are the Hebog Club, with Blaenau Amateurs members also involved.
Bowls
THE bowling team were beaten 10-2 at Penmaenmawr in a North Wales League A match. Their winners were Jason Hughes and Ken Jones.
The next match is home to Bangor on 26 May. Before then, Dafydd Hughes and Elwyn Jones will represent the Gwynedd Bowling Association in the Gwyn Morris Trophy at Criccieth on 18 May.
Angling
THE Cambrian Angling Association’s first competition of the season will be held at Ffridd Lake next Sunday from 10am to 4pm.
It will be for the junior members who will be competing for the Sgotwr nid Llosgwr prize. The entry fee is £4.
