Invitations
THE town council is to invite local MP Liz Saville Roberts to its July meeting.
And Michael Bewick, managing director at Llechwedd, has been invited to the council’s June meeting to update councillors on developments at Llechwedd.
Bowls
THE bowling club is through to the next round of the Gwynedd Cup, where they will play against Conway after their 7-1 win over Criccieth, their winners being Iwan, Dylan and R Elwyn Jones, Adam Hyde, Gareth Owen, Mike Burgoyne and Dafydd Hughes.
Angling
NINETEEN junior members took part in the Cambrian Angling Association’s first competition of the season held at Ffridd Lake on Sunday for the Sgotwr Nid Llosgwr Cup prize donated by the Fire Service. A total of 55 fish were presented at the weigh-in and the winner was Wayne Davies with six fish at 8 lbs 12 ozs with Ioan Williams second with 7 at 7-6 and third was Carwyn Thomas with 6 at 7-13, and whose catch included the heaviest fish at 2 lbs 4 ozs
Planning
THE council supported the following planning applications:
Construction of front extension at Uwch y Ddôl, Ffestiniog and a retrospective application to retain a single-storey extension to the rear of 2 Gland?r, Blaenau.
An outline application with all matters reserved to erect seven detached single-storey dwellings for the elderly with associated developments at the site of the former Gwylfa garage in Manod was not supported as it does not offer a suitable mix of dwellings nor any affordable dwellings and it is therefore considered that the proposal is contrary to several policies and requirements within both the affordable housing and housing mix supplementary planning guidelines.
Race
THIS year’s Moelwyn Fell Race, which will be part of the British Championship, will take place this Saturday. Runners will set off from Diffwys Square at 2pm and finish at Dolawel the Bro Ffestiniog rugby ground.

Darts
LOCAL darts player Heber Thomas added to his trophies by winning the recent Torrent Walk Hotel Darts Tournament at Dolgellau beating local player Dylan Evans in the final.
This Sunday he can have a chance of getting a quick double of wins as there is the local Royal Welsh Club’s open competition which will get under way at noon.
Singing festival
THE annual singing festival was held at Bowydd Chapel on Sunday conducted by Iwan Morgan and the organist was Sylvia Ann Jones.
Also taking part were Rhiannedd y Moelwyn Choir conducted by Ceris Jones and accompanist Sylvia A Jones. There was a fine solo by young Hannah Evans and her accompanist was Wendy Jenkins.
A collection was made towards the Ymchwil y Galon and Tecwyn V Jones gave a report on the local committee on that appeal.
