Sports events

IT WAS a busy weekend sports wise in Blaenau for as well as the annual Moelwyn Fell Race on Saturday, there was the RWF Club’s open darts competition on Sunday which was won by Richard Rowlands from Pwllheli who beat local Heber Thomas 5-4 in the final.

Also on Sunday, the annual Ffestiniog 360 bike charity event took place as cyclists left the town then on to Betws y Coed, Bethesda, Waunfawr, Beddgelert, Maentwrog and back. This was not a race but an event to raise money for St David’s Hospice, T? Gobaith.

On Saturday some 254 runners took part in the Moelwyn Fell Race which was also a British Championship event and which saw the runners start from Diffwys and finish at Dolawel. Full report on the sports pages.

Planning

THE council objected to a planning application to convert the Market Hall into 14 flats as there are no parking spaces with the building other than a public car park nearby.

The council is also asking whether the demand for one bedroom flats in the area has been proven; the information they have is that there is no local demand but that there is a demand for family homes.

If there is no local demand for one bedroom flats this could pose a threat to the language and community they say.

Request

THE town council has agreed to a request from the History Society to display the eisteddfod 1898 chair with the crown in an exhibition by th esociety in the Antur Stiniog building.

They are also delighted with the idea of displaying both at the Llanrwst Eisteddfod in August and the application was agreed with conditions namely proper insurance for the chair.

It will be necessary to ensure that no damage is done to the chair; the chair and drown to return to the council at the end of the exhibition.

The chair and crown will be available for up to six weeks from 12 of July.

The council will also be grateful to have the crown at their chamber for a short time before the exhibition as there is no photograph of the chair and the crown together in the Chamber.
