Angling

THE winner of this year’s Cambrian Angling Emrys Evans Memorial Cup, which took place at Gamallt Lakes on Friday evening, was Calfin Williams with 10 fish at 5 lbs 12 ozs. Second was Peter Roberts with five at 3-2 and in third place was Kevin John Jones with five at 2-8.

A total of 34 fish were caught by the nine fly fishing anglers that took part.

Trains

REPRESENTATIVES of Network Rail visited the town on Wednesday evening to give an update on the Vale of Conwy railway line which has been out of service since the severe flooding on 15 March.

The news was that it is expected that the trains will be running from Llandudno Junction to Llanrwst by 18 July and well in place before the National Eisteddfod there in August and the last part of the damage will be completed and the trains will be coming to and leaving Blaenau Ffestiniog on 24 July. With no trains over that long period a bus service has been in their place.

Award

CAFÉ Kiki at the park has been named the Best Breakfast Venue of the Year in North Wales prize by the Luxlife magazine Restaurant and Bar 2019 awards.

Gallery

THE Maenofferen Gallery hosts an exhibition of photographs by Simon Smith until 24 July, which documents the landscapes around Harlech transformed after a period of uncommonly high temperatures and dryness during 2018.

Admission to the gallery is free during the library’s opening hours.

Chamber

A HANDFUL of members attended last week’s meeting of the area’s Chamber of Commerce and Tourism and after a financial report by the treasurer Iris Fosbury the meeting debated whether to suspend or to the dissolution of the Chamber as it was felt it couldn’t keep going at this present rate.

In the end its Chairman Kevin Baldwin stated that the Chamber will be holding an important meeting to decide its future which is to be held at Little Dragons Softplay, 32, High Street at 6pm on Monday, 22 July. He also added that those members who are unable to attend are welcome to express their opinions by e-mail or post to the above address before Friday, 19 July.

Musician

THIS year’s Ysgol y Moelwyn Musician of the Year competition will be held there at 6.30pm next Tuesday evening, 9 July, and has been the norm the event is again sponsored by the Moelwyn Male Choir with cash prizes for the first three.
