Sports
BLAENAU Amateurs FC were beaten 4-0 in a home league match against Greenfield. This Saturday there is no match but were at Holhead Hotspurs on Wednesday evening. The Bro Ffestiniog XV were beaten 43-8 at home by Nant Conwy on Saturday.
The men’s local darts team were beaten 7-1 by Caernarfon in home Gwynedd Super Darts League match on Sunday which was played at the RWF Club.
Tree
SUNDAY saw the official launch of the Bro Ffestiniog Remembrance Tree at Diffwys Square by Cllr Glyn Daniels.
In his opening speech he stated: “As you know, the idea of the Tree of Light is to raise money for the St David’s Hospice at Home service and every penny raised will be spent on services in the Ffestiniog area. I would also like to thank all for supporting this important venture and most of all to mention the late Gwilym Price as it was his idea to get such Remembrance Tree and he would be so proud to see it standing here.”
Also present was Trystan Pritchard from the St David’s Hospice who stated that the hospice is working with Ffestiniog Council and others in a bid to get a small hospice in this area.
There was carol singing led by the Oakeley Band, conducted by Alan Jones, and Sylvia Ann Jones conducted the singing.
It is reported that £3,500 has been raised to the worthy cause with donations given by people in memory of their loved ones.
Planning
THE town council has agreed to a planning application with all matters reserved for the erection of six houses, including two affordable homes, on the former Gwylfa Garage site at Manod, but they would like to see at least half the scheme as affordable housing.
As for a planning application for the erection of six houses turning areas and access road on land at Manod Road, the town council has objected to the application as no affordable housing is included in the scheme and they raised concerns regarding the access to the site.
They have also supported a planning application for a two-storey extension to the side of 1 Pant yr Onnen, Rhiwbryfdir with a balcony and a garage on the ground floor.
Transfer
AMANDA Murray, project manager, highways and municipal for Gwynedd Council is to ask Meilir Huws from the property department of the council to see why nothing has happened regarding the transfer of properties such as the local Skate Park, Cae Gwair Oakeley and others to the Ffestiniog Town Council.
Programme
THE Sunday evening S4C programme Y Craith was filmed in parts of the town, such as the Pengwndwn estate and the Ysgol y Moelwyn.
Shelter
A TOWN council committee discussed, prior to the re-erection of the bus shelter, that representatives of the A470 trunk road agency should be contacted to arrange a meeting to discuss the relocation of the bus shelter at Manod.
It was claimed that it is in a dangerous position when a bus is picking up/dropping off passengers. They also want to replace the crossing with a Pelican crossing as drivers are unable to see pedestrians on the crossing if there is a bus by the bus shelter.
Meeting
CLLR Mel Goch ap Meirion attended a meeting of the Snowdonia National Park Authority at Plas Tan y Bwlch where a general update was given by the chief executive of the park authority stating that European funding was available to them until 2025.
It was also stated that landowners within the national park will have to be responsible for any path fixtures.
Choir
ON Friday evening the Moelwyn Choir, conducted by Sylva Ann Jones and accompanist Wenna Francis Jones, were in concert at Betws y Coed with Gareth Griffiths.
The compère and the choir made a donation to the BBC Children in Need Appeal.
