Meetings

COUNCILLORS Eurwyn Jones and Mel Goch ap Meirion will be attending the Eryri National Parks Town and Community Council meetings the former at Capel Curig on 12 July and the latter at Coed y Brenin on 18 July.

Advice

A REPRESENTATIVE of the Citizens Advice Bureau will be at the library every Monday between 10am and 1pm and ready to answer any questions one might have and no appointments are needed to be seen.

Salt

GWYNEDD Council is to give further details regarding arrangements and conditions for the supply of the salt these roads etc., will need in the coming winter months for this supply is so essential to the uplands area of Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Toilets

THE Chamber of Commerce wrote a letter to the town council stating their concerns about the news that maybe the Diffwyd Square toilet was to close as part of a cost cutting exercise by Gwynedd Council.

The town council was told by one of its councillors who is also a Gwynedd councillor that the hope is that it will not close but it is likely for them to ask for a contribution towards its running costs from the town and in other locations their community councils.

THE Maenofferen Gallery hosts an exhibition provided by members of the local Camera Club until 23 July and admission is free during the library’s opening hours.

Bowls

BLAENAU Bowling Club are out of the Gwynedd Cup after their second-round defeat by Llanfair PG and things didn’t get better in their North Wales League A campaign as they lost 8-4 at Llandudno, the winners being Barry J Hughes, Mike Burgoyne and Elwyn and Stephen Jones then took on Rhos Park B in a home match which saw them return to winning form with a 11-1 win thanks to wins from Martin and Dafydd Hughes, Elwyn Gareth,Ken,and R.Elwyn Jones, Aled and Dyfed Owen, and Mike Burgoyne.

The next match is away at Min y Don on Saturday.

Camera

FOLLOWING discussions between the police and the council it has been announced that the police would fund the costs of installing further CCTV cameras on Church Street which the council has accepted and they are to make arrangements for having them installed.

Bikes

LAST weekend saw the latest Downhill Bike Trails event which was the annual DhFfest race which drew bikers from far and wide The next big event at Llechwedd will be the Welsh Championship competition which will be held on the first weekend in August.

Angling

THE annual night fishing competitions was held at Morwynion Lake with a total of 59 trout presented at the weigh in.

The juniors competed for the Roy Bellrinnger Cup which was won by Gerwyn Davies with five fish weighing in at 5 lbs and 12 ozs; in second place was Ioan Williams with two at 2-4 and Ryan Evans with one at 1-4 was third.

The seniors J O Davies Salver winner was Gethin Jones with five at 5-9 and in second place was Janice Jones with four at 4-5 with veteran angler Elwyn Ellis was placed third with two at 2-5.

The fly fishing event for the R T Jones Cup was won by Calfyn Williams with 17 at 17-3; Aldryn Evans with two at 6-4 was second; and Bernie Bartram with six at 5-13 in third place.

Football

THE Blaenau Amateurs FC were pleased with the news that their second team will be competing in the Gwynedd League next season rather than in the Welsh Alliance Reserve League which they did play in for the past two seasons.

Council

THE chair of the town council welcomed Mari Rees as the new councillor for the Tanygrisiau ward and wished her a happy career as a councillor. The council has donated a sum of £150 to the Def Werdd and £100 to Blaenau in Bloom.

Cllr Rory Francis has been appointed to all the council’s sub committees.

Park

IT HAS been reported that the Park Partnership will be taking part in Bwrlwm Bro, which is to take place at the park on 16 July.

Motorcycles

THE damage caused by motorcycles on the slopes of the Moelwynion is a concern to many and the police need to be informed if these bikes are seen in the area and an incident number should be obtained from the police.

Cleaning

THE council has been discussing the much-needed cleaning of the local war memorial and several tests have been carried out on it and it is likely an acid has been discovered that will not deface the slate.

Cerrig Cyf has offered a prize for doing the work but the town council has resolved to wait until September to have it cleaned it so that would be at its best for November’s Remembrance Sunday.
