BLAENAU Amateurs FC won their first points of the season with a 2-1 win at Llanerchymedd on Saturday and this week they are home to Gaerwen in a Welsh Trophy tie which had to be postponed two weeks ago.
The Reserves were beaten 4-2 at home by Nefyn United and are at Waunfawr this week. Bro Ffestiniog XV got their WRU Division 1 season under way with a 27-13 at COBRA and this week are home to Colwyn Bay.
The Bowling Club last match of the North Wales League A season ended in a 8-4 home defeat by St Asaph and their winners were Martin Hughes, Aled Owen, Dylan Vaughan and Stephen Jones.

Cymdeithas Bro Ffestiniog THE first meeting of the new season of the English Section of the Cymdeithas Bro Ffestinog took place at local Ganolfan on Thursday evening where the guest speaker Simon Silcox gave a talk on The Hidden Homes in Gwynedd.
Choir
THE Brythoniaid Choir conducted by John Eifion and accompanist Liz Ellis entertained wedding guests at Portmeirion on Saturday afternoon and the choir have been invited to sing with two other choirs at the Millennium Stadium Cardiff in November, before the start of the Wales against Argentina rugby international.
Angling
FFRIDD Lake was the venue for the Cambrian Angling Association’s junior anglers competition on Sunday for the Glyn Lloyd Memorial Shield. Twelve took part and a grand total of 62 fish were pre-sented at the weigh-in.
The winner was Gwendoline Jones with 11 fish at 14 pounds 7 ounces, with Ioan Williams second with 14 at 13-8 and in third place was Charlie Williams with 6 at 10-9, including the heaviest fish of 5 pounds 6 ounces.
Bank
FROM this Friday afternoon, Blaenau Ffestiniog will be without a bank as the HSBC closes its doors for the last time, Blaenau had three banks and building society branches to serve this community over the years now they have all gone.
HSBC had two popular tellers who were always ready to help anyone with any queries in Gwen Gray and Enid Jones, the latter from Talsarnau who is to retire and local Gwen is being transferred to the Porthmadog branch and both are thanked for their valued service to this community.

Stage star
A STAR from Blaenau Ffestiniog has performed on stage in front of masses of friends and family. Callum Evans, 21, is currently starring in Lazy Town, a production promoting healthy lifestyles for children, as the show’s hero Sportacus.
Last month, dozens of well-wishers heading eat from Callum’s hometown to pack out the Pavilion Theatre in Rhyl for one of the show’s last runs.
“What an amazing audience and supporting lot they were,” said Callum. “And having both my brother and sister there put the icing on the cake!”
“[The show’s] so enjoyable and it’s nice that it’s always fresh as I’m constantly touring in different venues.
“The crowds were very busy at the beginning, but as the summer holidays progressed there was an endless amount of people in the crowds and very supportive kids who loved the show.
“Although it was great to have my friends and family present, I tend to give my best at every performance regardless of who’s there or how many is there, everyone deserves the show to be at 10 per cent!”
So what’s next for the Ffestiniog celebrity? “No plans as of yet,” he admits.“I’m just auditioning again now for a different job and cross fingers there will be more to come.
I’m adamant on getting another job, so I should be fine. I love doing what I do!”
