AGM
AT THE Blaenau Ffestiniog Chamber of Commerce and Tourism AGM its hardworking and popular chairperson for the last four years, Clare Britton, has resigned due to the fact that she is now chair of the North Wales Tourism, which takes up more of her time. Over the years Clare has been promoting Blaenau Ffestiniog in various shows, exhibitions spreading the town’s tourist leaflet far and wide. She has also been in touch with Arriva Trains to get the Conway Valley train Sunday service running throughout the year. She will not be resigning all together as she agreed to be its treasurer. Alister Haveron who has been in the post of their marketing officer has also stated that he was resigning and in his statement he stated that the Chamber’s website was so important and is very popular with over 1,000 visits and it is important for the area that it is kept up and running. The following were elected as officials: Chair, Kevin Baldwin; vice chair: Dave Hughes; secretary: Ann Griffiths; membership officer: Sue Roberts; marketing officer: It is hoped Alan Wheal will take the post with Alister Haveron his deputy. Kevin Baldwin, who is also a town councillor, stated that the council has increased its precept but added that they are now responsible for keeping the town toilet open as well as the upkeep of the scores of local footpaths and children’s parks ending by stating that the council is to spend £10,000 on a Christmas Market to be held at the park between 5 and 11 of December. Also a parade on the evening of the town’s switching on of the Christmas lights will start from Manod and end at the park This meeting was held at Llechwedd and Michael Bewick and Ceri Bartlett both on the staff there informed members of what is available there at present and what plans are in mind for the future of this popular tourist at-traction where also the Chamber members were treated to fine refreshments. To end the evening Clare was thanked for her valued contribution to the Chamber and was presented with a bouquet by Sue Roberts and a suitable slate plaque by Michael Bewick.

Ysgol Maenofferen
ON Friday, Gareth Roberts said goodbye to the staff and pupils as he is leaving the post of headmaster after six-and-a-half years to take up duties as the deputy headmaster of Ysgol Bro Idris, Dolgellau, in September. He has also been a peer inspector with Estyn for the past two years. In the post of interim headmaster until the summer break will be Sioned Hughes after which Aled Williams, the present head of Llandegfan School in Anglesey, will take over in September. In the meantime, parents and pupils wish to thank Gareth for his valued contribution to the area and wish him the very best in his new post.
Ysgol Tanygrisiau
ROEDD hi’n Ddiwrnod Trwyn Coch yn Ysgol Tanygrisiau lle cafwyd nifer o wahanol weithgareddau yn y bore ac yn y prynhawn cynhaliwyd gystadleuaeth Tanygrisiau’s Got Talent. Roedd y staff wedi gaddo os byddai y plant wedi codi £100 neu fwy y buasai rhywun enwog yn dod i’r ysgol. Fe gasglwyd £270.
Camera club
TERRY Mills from the Deudraeth club was the adjudicator for the club’s digimania competition in which members submitted five images on different subjects. Ian O’Neill was placed first, John P Jones second and Awlyn Williams in third. The Annual Cup was the last club competition of the season where the adjudicator, Phil Chadwick from Llandudno, placed Rory Trappe first in the projected images section while Iona O’Neill won the prints section as well as being named the overall winner of the cup. The club took part in the North Wales Photographic Alliance inter club competition held at Craig y Don, Llandudno, and were placed first in the print section with Iona O’Neill gaining the best print award. The club finished in second place overall.
Bowling club
THE club held its AGM where the following officials were elected: chairman, Dafydd Lloyd Williams; vice-chairman, D W Hughes; secretary, Dewi Moelwyn Williams; treasurer, Martyn W Hughes. The committee members are: Richard Elwyn Jones, Elwyn V Jones, Barry J Hughes, Gwyn M Jones, Mike Burgoyne and Iwan Vaughan Jones. The club opened their North Wales League A season with a 9-3 away defeat at Conwy with Adam Hyde, Barry J Hughes and Dafydd Hughes their winners. This Saturday they are home to Bangor.
