THE Maenofferen Gallery hosts an exhibition of contemporary fibre arts by Pat Butters, Theresa Fox-Burne, Helen Harris and Anwen Hughes under the title of Inspired until the end of July and admission is free during the library’s opening hours.

Musician

A TOTAL of 26 young musicians from Ysgol y Moelwyn took the stage at the school on Thursday evening for its Musician of the Year event where Dewi Lake, headmaster, welcomed all present. The adjudicators were former school pupils Leri Roberts and Callum Evans.

They had the hard task of selecting the winners from the 12 acts and after some time considering they announced that the winner was solo singer 13-year-old Abi Lewis and in joint second place were singer Elain Mia Jones and the Apollo group of Theo Bridges, Llion Davies, Jude Glass and Mack Jones. Pianist Alex Anthony came third.

The competition was again kindly sponsored by the Moelwyn Choir whose member, Tecwyn Williams, presented the prizes to round off a most enjoyable evening.

Train

IT has been announced that the next special steam train, the Welsh Mountaineer, will be arriving in Blaenau on Tuesday, 25 July, at 1.15pm; and leaving at 4pm to return to Preston.

Choirs

ON Friday evening the Moelwyn Choir, conducted by Sylvia Ann Jones and accompanist Wenna Francis Jones, were in concert at Betws y Coed with young soloists Awel Haf Jones and Tomos Heddwyn Griffiths and compere Gareth Griffiths.

On Saturday evening the Brythoniaid Choir conducted by John Eifion and accompanist Elizabeth Ellis were in concert at Ruthin, where they were joined by the Deiniolen Band conducted by Lois Eifion, the daughter of John Eifion.

Their next engagement will be competing in the International Eisteddfod at Llangollen.

Advice

A CITIZENS Advice Bureau representative will be at the library between 10am and 1pm on Mondays and ready to give relevant advice where needed.

No appointments needed.

Exhibition

THE local historical society has opened its exhibition at its usual site next to the town council.

This is manned by volunteers and will be open until the end of August.

Bloom

TIME is running short to enter the Blaenau in Bloom Garden Competition; the closing date is 3 July.

Entry forms should be taken to Hen Bost, High Street.

The categories are Large, Small, Containers, Vegetables and Wildlife gardens with a separate section for Commercial or Business and judging of all the entries will be made on Wednesday, 5 July.
