THIS Friday evening local artists will be entertaining at the RWF Club, Church Street.

The proceeds of which will be donated to the Alaw Ward in Ysbyty Gwynedd.

Choirs

IT was a busy weekend for the town’s two male choirs as the Brythoniaid, conduced by John Eifion and accompanist Elizabeth Ellis, were one of five Welsh choirs that competed at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod.

Though they were judged the best of them, they had to settle for the second prize as the winners were Men in Blaque from California and another Welsh choir Ar ôl Tri were placed third.

As for the Moelwyn Choir, conducted by Sylvia Ann Jones and accompanist Wenna Francis Jones, they were in concert at Betws y Coed on Friday evening with young soloists Awel Jones andTomos Heddwyn Griffiths and the compere was Gareth Griffiths.

Then on Saturday afternoon the Moelwyn entertained guests at a wedding held at Nant Gwynant.

The bride and groom came from Derby and as from Friday evening the only change was that Glyn Jones was the compere.

Siop Siarad

THE July meeting of Siop Siarad, the local social group for Welsh learners and speakers, will be held at 11am on Saturday, 22 July, at the Bridge Café and all are welcome to come and have a coffee and a chat.

AN exhibition titled ‘Inspired and of contemporary fibre arts’ by Pat Butters, Theresa Fox Buurne, Helen Harris and Anwen Hughes is on show at the Maenofferen Gallery till 29 July, and admission is free during the library’s opening hours.

Policing

INFORMATION has been given to the town council that several break-ins have occurred recently with drugs, especially crack cocaine, part of the reason for this problem.

A local police inspector is to attend a council meeting and has asked if he could receive any information regarding topics to be discussed to ensure that he has the correct information and he in turn is to be asked to provide the crime statistics for the area.

It has also been stated that the police have held joint meetings with Cartrefi Cymundebol Cymru regarding the problems in the area.

Advice

A REPRESENTATIVE of the Citizens Advice Bureau will be present at the library on Mondays between 10am and 1pm ready to give relevant information where needed and no appointments are needed to be present.

Plantlife

A NEW project is being planned focusing on Atlantic woodlands which are rich in wildlife including lichens, mosses as well as birds and butterflies with some species existing only in Wales.

The project’s aim is to help restore some of these woodlands and support better management of them as well as help people explore celebrate and tell the story of these special plants.

The project is being developed bt Plantlife Cymru, Snowdonia National Park, RSPB and the Woodland Trust. Also on the a similar topic the Conservation, Woodland and Agricultural section Eryri National Park has recently received numerous apple tree plants and are keen to share these amongst the local communities by offering four free apple trees.

In accepting these four trees the council are to get an agreement from Y Dref Werdd to work together with their planting.

As for the woodlands the council is to ask Plantlife to contact Y Dref Werdd as this is within their work programme.

North Wales Fire and Rescue

COUNCILLOR Annwen Daniels, who represents the Bowydd and Rhiw ward on both the town and Gwynedd councils, has been appointed onto the North Wales Fire and Rescue Committee.

Soccer

BLAENAU Amateurs FC’s first of many preseason friendly matches will be tonight (Thursday) at Cae Clyd when they take on the Porthmadog Under 21 side.

However, their home friendly which was planned for next Sunday against a side from Gilligham area, has been called off as the Kent side are unable to guarantee a full side travelling the far distance to play.

Meeting

FOLLOWING Cllr Glyn Daniels having full support of the Gwynedd Council regarding the lack of the necessary medical needs in the Blaenau area, a Gwynedd Committee, chaired by Cllr Eryl Jones-Williams contacted the Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board for a meeting to discuss these issues.

They were told it will be at least six weeks before they could send representatives to attend, which would be just a few weeks before the new Memorial Clinic is due to be completed at the Memorial Hospital site with no inpatient beds, X Ray or Minor Injuries units included.

Also at that meeting a delegation of the Ffestiniog Memorial Defence Committee has been invited to attend.

Graffiti

THE playing fields inspector’s monthly report stated that there was indecent graffiti on the youth shelter at the skate park, and in response the council was to arrange for it to be removed.
