LOCAL rugby player Jessica Kavanagh Williams has been selected for the Wales international rugby squad for the forthcoming World Cup competition to be held in Ireland.
On the football front, Blaenau Amateurs FC drew 1-1 in a friendly at home to Pwllheli on Thursday evening; Bryn Humphreys the scorer.

THE gallery hosts an exhibition of the Gwynedd Crafts Group’s work until 14 September.
Admission is free during the library’s opening hours.
Steam trains
LAST Tuesday, the latest steam train engine excursion arrived at 1pm, having started from Preston at 7am, and while some of the passengers then went on the Ffestiniog Railway to Porthmadog, others remained in town until the train set off on its return journey at 4pm.
Most reports state that the travellers on the Scots Guardsman-led six-carriage train had enjoyed their visit to the area.
The next special train will be The Scenic Conwy Explorer 1 on Wednesday, 20 September, to be followed by the other last two of the year on Saturday, 30 September, and Wednesday, 4 October.
Brythoniaid Choir
THE choir, conducted by John Eifion and accompanist Dafydd Alan, were in concert at Conwy on Saturday evening with guest artistes which included Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy, Llanrwst choir, soprano Sian Gibson, harpist Dafydd Huw Jones and John Eifion, soloist.
Prizes
THE annual local schools’ Brymer prizewinners have been announced as follows: Manod, Alisha Reffold; Bro Cynfal, Erin Mair Chapman; Tanygrisiau, Oliver Skipp; Maenofferen, Mari Angharad Williams; and Ysgol y Moelwyn, Megan Jones.
Also at Ysgol y Moelwyn, the annual Nel Thomas Memorial Award winners were Kerry Ellis and Osian Burrough.

Golden wedding anniversary
CELEBRATING their golden wedding anniversary last Saturday were Dei and Elin Jones of 7 Isfryn Terrace, Manod.
Vintage show
THE second Vintage 40s Day and Classic Car Show was held at Diffwys on Sunday.
It was another day of plenty of entertainment as well as offering a fine collection of classic cars and other vehicles for visitors to see.
Among those who entertained the crowd were Fiona Harrison and the local Rhiannedd y Moelwyn choir, conducted by Sylvia Ann Jones and accompanist Wenna Francis Jones; and the young duo Kerry Ann Ellis and Osian Burrough.
There were also other activities for the children.
Thankfully the rain held off until the final hour or so and by all accounts it was reported that it was another enjoyable vintage 40s day.
Charity collection
THE charity night held at the RF Club which included a raffle and an auction raised a grand total of £1,067.60 for Ysbyty Gwynedd’s Alaw Ward Benevolent Fund.
