THE latest community news from Bro Moelwyn
New leader
A REVEREND has been appointed as the new leader for the Bro Moelwyn area.
The Bishop of Bangor, the Right Rev Andy John, has announced Rev Roland Barnes (pictured above) as the new Ministry Area Leader for the Bro Moelwyn Ministry Area, which serves the communities around Blaenau Ffestiniog, Penrhyndeudraeth and Trawsfynydd.
Roland is currently serving the Bro Cyfeiliog and Mawddwy Ministry Area, which comprises communities around Mallwyd, Machynlleth, and Llanbrynmair.
He is married to Julie and they have two grown up sons, Ben and Peter. Born and brought up around Bala, Roland moved to Llanymawddwy with his family to farm in 1980.
He trained for ordained ministry with the Diocese of Bangor, and has ministered in his local community since his ordination in 2003.
Looking forward to his new role, Roland said: “I was shocked when I was asked to consider this new role in Bro Moelwyn. I have been part of the community in Bro Cyfeiliog and Mawddwy for over 37 years. Moving will be a great wrench; leaving so many good friends, with whom we’ve shared all the ups and downs of life for over half a lifetime. Watching our children grow to maturity, walking with people through life and presiding over the last rights of friends and colleagues we’ve grown to respect and love.
“I thank everyone for their friendship and support, and would ask that you offer the same to the Ministry Area leader who takes over from Canon Kath Rogers and myself in the new year.”
Rev Andy John said: “Roland has been a faithful shepherd to his local communities for many years. I give thanks to God for all that Roland has accomplished, and thank Roland for his ministry in Bro Cyfeiliog and Mawddwy. Now he has the opportunity to use his gifts in new communities, to lead and grow the Body of Christ in Bro Moelwyn.”
