THE latest community news from Cardigan
Sea Scout group
MEMBERS of 3rd Cardigan Sea Scout Group have had a busy term across the sections including organising and participating in hikes, camps, backwoods cooking, indoor craft activities, first aid, swimming and game playing. Practical activities have included slacklining, pioneering and circus skills.
The scouts and explorer scouts have enjoyed a number of camps and all sections have participated in fun and action packed weekends away youth hostelling with other scout groups from across the county. All sections participated in Cardigan’s lantern parade with other youth groups and organisations and have been doing their part for the community including participating in Cardigan’s Remembrance Day parade, running a Christmas craft stall at Cardigan Fair, running a public fireworks display, bag packing and fund-raising at local supermarkets and Christmas carol singing.
The Explorer Scouts have been progressing in their Young Leader training and the group currently have several adult volunteers participating in the Scout Associations Adult Training scheme. 3rd Cardigan Sea Scout Group operates three youth sections; Beaver Scouts (six to eight years), Cub Scouts (eight to 10.5 years) and Scouts (10.5 to 14 years). Tarian y Ddraig Explorer Scout Unit (14 to 18 years) is attached to the group. Within Ceredigion, Scout Network (1825 years) operates for older youth.
The group currently has minimal availability for new members within the Cub Scout section as does the Explorer Scout Unit. The group are currently recruiting adult volunteers. There are vacancies for leaders, assistant leaders, occasional helpers and skills instructors. Full training and support is provided.
