WI
CEREDIGION Federation of Women’s Institutes gathered together on 24 November to support the campaign White Ribbon Day for the elimination of violence against women.
The White Ribbon is worn as a symbol of people speaking out against male violence against women and asking men to act as ambassadors who will challenge the inequalities and attitudes that cause violence against women.
Members gathered in Aberystwyth at 6pm, and we would like to thank our guests who attended the Vigil.
Ben Lake, our Member of Parliament, spoke eloquently in support of our campaign and for his agreement to become an Ambassador against Violence for Ceredigion.
They would like to state their gratitude to local supporters, Aberystwyth mayor Steve Davies and Ellen ap Gwynn, leader of Ceredigion County Council and the police officers and firemen who were there.
They stood wearing their white ribbons as a pledge never to commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.
A collection was taken on the night, all of which will be donated to the West Wales abuse service and we would also like to acknowledge the generosity of our local community.
