Tractor run

PETER Davies and Jeff Thomas, organisers of the now annual 23-mile Drefach-Llanybydder charity tractor run, made a presentation of £4,170 to Multiple Sclerosis and Clwb Cledlyn, along with their great team of marshalls and helpers who kept an eye on the 77 tractors that took part, at the Cefn Hafod pub in Gorsgoch.

Gardening club

JULY’S social meeting was the club’s own version of Gardeners’ Question Time, with a panel of three members answering questions from other members.

This was followed by a lovely spread of cheese and wine supplied by the committee.

The club’s next meeting is on Wednesday, 3 August, at 7.30pm at The Red Dragon Hall.

Members will be welcoming Malcolm Berry, a professional horticulturalist, who will talk about the basics of organic vegetable growing, including the care of soil, composting, companion planting and the benefit to insects.

The club was also due to attend the carnival on Saturday, 16 July, selling plants on a stall in the park.

Proceeds from the plant sales go towards community projects such as the Annual Horticultural and Craft Show, which is held each year in September at the Red Dragon Hall.

Drefach Felindre Gardening Club meetings are usually held on the first Wednesday of each month.

Free refreshments are served following the speaker’s presentation and club members bring along items for the raffle, such as spare plants and garden produce. The club also gives members the opportunity to trade plant seeds for other produce.

There is a warm welcome for everyone and guests are invited for free on their first visit. Annual membership costs just £10.

The club also arranges visits to award-winning and historic gardens, members’ gardens and specialist nurseries throughout the year.
