THE latest community news from Dysynni
Dysynni Ladies
AT the November meeting, a warm welcome was extended by the chairperson, Anne Rowlands.
She conveyed apologies for absence on behalf of several members and went on to offer thoughts and good wishes to those suffering or facing health problems themselves or within their families, before extending sentiments of sympathy to the treasurer, Gwenda Roberts, who had recently lost her mother.
She continued with a tribute to Liz Williams, who had recently passed away following a period of ill health.
Liz had been a member since the late 1970s and over the years had held various offices, namely secretary, committee member, chairperson and, for several years latterly, as treasurer.
She was a faithful member of the group and always undertook her duties in an efficient and positive manner. She will be sadly missed not only in the group but also by the community she served in various capacities.
The group wish to convey their sympathy to Liz’s two sons, Gareth and Richard, and have decided to make a proposal for a donation to the family’s chosen charity, namely, Macmillan nurses in Liz’s memory.
Following the death of the group’s life president, Anna Pateman, a letter received from her son, Tudur Jones, thanking the Dysynni Ladies for the contribution made at her funeral and for the support shown throughout her illness, was read out.
The guest speaker for the evening was Alma Evans, Cross Foxes, a lady well-known in the area for her cooking and cake-decorating prowess.
Within barely an hour she made mincemeat and Christmas puddings.
She brought along with her mincemeat slices, which were layers of shortbread filled with the mincemeat, and distributed as tasters.
The tasting then followed with warm Christmas pudding accompanied by brandy butter, then she assembled a chocolate roulade with fruit and cream and finally a chocolate mocha cake.
Janice Stewart gave the vote of thanks.
Janice Stewart also won the raffle and Norma Hughes, Janet Jones and Myra Dods were in charge of the refreshments.
The three cupcakes competition winner was Gwenfair Pierce, second Anne Rowlands and third Gwyneth Thomas.
The next meeting will be the Christmas dinner at The Woodlands, Bryncrug on Wednesday, 12 December, when everyone needs to bring a gift for the Secret Santa, followed by some entertainment.
