Historical society

THE next meeting of the society will be on Tuesday, 30 July.

The group will visit Tywyn to learn about the history of the town, and the walk will be led by Quentin Deakin of the Tywyn Historical Society.

Meeting place: Tywyn Railway Station at 11.30am.

Members can travel by train on the 10.29am from Harlech but some may prefer to travel independently.

Return journey leaves Tywyn at 5.29pm, arriving in Harlech at 6.24pm.

The day comprises a morning walk in the town, including St Cadfan’s Church, St Cadfan’s Wells and the Victorian Assembly Rooms.

After lunch (sandwiches or café in town) there is a walk through the beach area, taking in the Victorian seaside development and the Marconi wireless receiving station which operated at the end of the First World War.

There will be time for a cup of tea at the beach café. John Hirst will have his car in Tywyn and can provide transport between the town and farthest point on the afternoon walk for members who need that. He may be contacted on 07834 703700.

Members unable to do the full day could do the morning walk and return to Harlech on the 3.26pm train but there is much of interest in the second half so the full day is recommended.

Both members and non-members are welcome but please, no dogs.
