THE president, Christine Hemsley, welcomed all members present. It was announced that Pat Turton, the secretary, has been elected to the board of trustees. Minutes of the March meeting were read and duly accepted as correct.
NFWI correspondence was available to view and there were also boards for members to add their names to if they wished to attend the Edinburgh Wool Fashion Show on 18 May, also to order WI diaries for 2018.
The next dining club event will be at the new Castle Bistro on 11 May. There are also some ideas for walks to participate in during the summer.
A vote of thanks was given to Sue Wager and Denise Hagan for their help at the Spring Council and to Sheila for her excellent story of Pennies for Friendship.
Jill Houliston gave out information about future computer classes to be held locally.
The guest speaker for the evening was Mary Post, a very talented weaver from Harlech.
As well as her crafts, she spoke about the goats she used to keep and how they sort of ’pushed’ her to start weaving, using their wool. She passed around some photos and brought along some of the scarves she had made. Denise gave a vote of thanks to Mary on behalf of the members.
This month’s raffle was to support the NFWI. The competition was for something woven and the winner was Sheila Maxwell with Sue Williamson and Christine Hemsley in second and third. Tea, coffee and biscuits followed.
The next meeting will be on 10 May. All new members welcome.
