President Jan Cole welcomed all, especially new member Winifred Jones.
A minute’s silence was observed in memory of much loved and respected long-serving member Libbi Williamson, who passed away on Monday, 12 February.
Jan introduced the guest speaker for the evening, Adrian Evans, accompanied by Nicci, who participate in events with Harlech Knights
The theme for the talk was ‘Re-enactment’.
On display were knights’ armour, and battle equipment used including swords, knives, to name a few.
Some of the members joined in with Adrian demonstrating the various stages of a knight’s dress. To conclude a very interesting demonstration, Nicci introduced the members to a small white owl that she had adopted.
After refreshments, the business meeting started with apologies accepted, and birthday cards handed out.
The county letter was read out by the president with lots of events to look forward to in the next month.
Among them, Te Cymraeg, to be held in Dyffryn Village Hall, starting at 2pm on Wednesday, 28 February.
Then there will be a coffee morning to be held in Llanfair Village Hall on Thursday, 8 March to raise funds for the Save Denman appeal.
Christine has arranged a trip to Yr Ysgwrn on Tuesday, 20 February; the cost will be £5 to members.
Easter basket and decorated egg competitions will be held at the Rugby Club, Dolgellau.
The next dining club outing will be on Thursday, l March, with the annual dinner to take place during April; arrangements still ongoing.
Correspondence was read by Edwina, regarding a reply to the letter sent to Gwynedd Council about the concerns over the lack of transport in the area, with various points noted and discussed.
Information was given out regarding the monthly crafts club, held in The Old Library, on Thursday, 22 February, arriving l.30pm for a 2pm start. The ladies will be engrossed in bead making, chatter, and drinking lots of tea.
The arrangements were discussed regarding the March meeting, in which other institutes will be invited to join in with the St David’s Day celebration. There will be an array of lovely food, raffle prizes, sales table, followed by entertainment by a local talent group.
Pat Turton gave out information regarding the arrangements for Libbi Williamson’s funeral.
It will be held on the Tuesday, 27 February in St Tanwg’s Church, the service starting at 11.30am.
The next meeting will be held in The Memorial Hall on Wednesday, 14 March, starting at 7pm. Members would love to see lots of new faces, so please come and join us, as our guest for the evening.
