Custard Queens WI

THE Summer Quiz will be held on Sunday, 1 July, at St Thomas’ Church Hall at 7pm and is opn to all.

Teams of both men and women will be welcomed to join in the fun in the annual summer quiz.

In the past, this has proved to be a great evening, with prizes for the winners.

For non-members a £5 donation is asked for. There will be free refreshments.

Every Friday afternoon Custard Queens hold a Coffee Catch Up at 2.30pm in The Mustard Seed Café. All welcome, partners and children.

 There is no meeting in August.

Bridge club

Martin and Gwenda were the successful pair at the weekly bridge session at Hafandeg, beating Andrew and John by 3 per cent.

The top three were: 1. Martin Davies and Gwenda Davies, 58 per cent; 2. Andrew Phillips and John Evans, 55 per cent; 3. Herbie Rowley and Mary Savage, 52 per cent.

The players meet every Tuesday at 6.45pm. Newcomers and learners are always welcome. Why not try it? Whist players have a great starting advantage.

A team from the club entered the Celtic Congress at Fishguard on 25-27 May.

It’s an annual international event with players from Wales and Ireland participating.

Pairs and a team event were held.

The Lampeter team had a remarkable victory, winning handsomely, beating second place by over a 100 match points.

Top three results, from 12 competing teams were: 1. John Evans, Andrew Phillips, Keith Bellamy, and Dai Hayes, 154 IMPs; 2. Jennifer Wardell, Chris Morley, Jason He, and Mrunalini Dewan, 43 IMPs; 3. Kay Clement, Phyllis O’Regan, Pat O’ Mahoney, and Jim Stokes, 39 IMPs.
