Ramblers

THE walk on 14 July led by Caroline and Margaret commenced in Prengwyn, where they headed for Coed Foel Nature Reserve via Cwm March and Rhyd Coed-Foel. Following the minor road at Faerdre-fawr toward Capel Dewi and the Clettwr Valley to Bethel Methodist Capel where they rested for lunch.

The chapel was built in 1901 but within the far end of the graveyard is the derelict ruin of the original chapel, Capel Enoch, which was built in 1812. The village gets its name from the nearby St David’s Church and the village is also home to Rock Mill, a water wheel-powered woollen mill. From the chapel they returned to Prengwyn via Derlwyn and Bryngolau.

The following week was a coastal walk following the Pembrokeshire Coast Path from Milford Haven Marina to Pembroke Dock. This part of the coastal route is largely dominated by the oil refineries and pipelines but which are mainly hidden away from view.

A notorious stretch of road at Black Bridge is now avoided by a section of path heading up the shore of Castle Pill to lead back to the shores of the Haven on to Neyland.

Here the path crosses the bridges over Westfield Pill and the River Cleddau to Pembroke Dock.
