Ramblers
ON a bright and breezy Saturday (25 September) they commenced their new walking adventure following the Glynd?r Way.
The trail is named after the late-medieval Welsh leader Owain Glynd?r, and is one of three national trails in Wales.
It links at either end, Knighton and Welshpool with the Offa’s Dyke Path and so forms a circular route.
By road it is nearly 30 miles between the two towns, but the circuitous trail follows through sparsely populated countryside for 135 miles.
The day started from the clock tower in the middle of Knighton and followed over hills and woodlands, pastures and woodlands to Llangynllo and over the River Lugg to Beacon Hill Common.
The day’s hike ended near Stanky Hill having turned from the trail to complete their first 13 miles section about five miles north east of Llanbister.
Their next exertion will be at the end of March where they will continue to Llanbadarn Fynydd a distance of about 12 miles.
The summer walking programme has included a variety of walks through August at Llangybi, Pontsian, Cellan and Llanrhystud.
September walks include Alltwalis, Henllan, Pembrokeshire, Pumsaint and a spectacular mountain walk at the end of the month to the source of Rivers Rheidol and Wye in the Cambrian Hills.

Bridge club
ANOTHER good evening’s bridge was held on Tuesday with so many interesting boards.
The leading positions were: 1, Keith Bellamy and Dai Hayes, 74 per cent; 2, George Kenchington and Nigel Symmons-Jones, 63 per cent; 3, Martin Davies and Gwenda Davies, 56 per cent.
Some truly interesting hands can be found, such as this one (NS vul): North – Spades J,8,6,4; Hearts A,Q,J,8,4,3,2; Diamonds, void; Clubs J,3,7.
West – Spades 9. East – Spades A,K,Q,7.
Hearts 7; Hearts K,10,9,6.
Diamonds K,Q,10,8,7,6,5,4; Diamonds A.
Clubs Q,6,5; Clubs A,10,9,8.
South – Spades 10,5,3,2; Hearts 5; Diamonds J,9,3,2; Clubs K,7,4,2.
East’s partner, West, opened a pre-emptive 3 diamonds. North overbid 3 hearts. East doubled and is happy if it’s left in – should be 4 down at least.
But West now goes 4 D, so East enquires for aces with 4NT, he shows no aces.
East goes 6D, expecting AH to be with North. Fortuitously, this makes.
After A H lead, South trumps East’s KH and so loses his natural diamond trick.
East made his 12 tricks with 8Ds, 3Ss and AC.
The club meets every Tuesday at 6.45pm at Hafan Deg retirement home. Croeso i bawb.
