Gr?p Lonc a Clonc EVERY month a group of Ramblers go out and about together for an amble ramble of between three and five miles. Walking at a leisurely pace, steep hills, stiles and other challenges are kept to a minimum or avoided wherever possible. They will often end in a café or tearoom, for more chat and socialising. The last walk circled Mynydd Pencarreg starting from the Llandrissi plantation to follow the mountain road to Pantycrwys, near to the source of the River Marlais. It is a tranquil place with a tragic past, as it was hereabout that in 1829 Hannah Davies was brutally murdered, culminating in an equally gruesome hanging of her suitor and murderer, David Evans. Pencarreg Mast, a prominent landmark for miles around, was reached on the grassy track gently ascending toward Maesllan at the top of the mountain. Rejoining the mountain road toward Pantyffin, the last stretch back, offered wonderful clear views across the Teifi Valley. The next Lonc a Clonc on 24 September will be in Llandeilo, with lunch at The Hangout. Details: James Williams (01570 480743).
