AT the November meeting, the theme was very much focused on the Lampeter area and west Wales in general.

Alan Leech, a resident of Llanfair Clydogau talked about the distinguished Lampeter banker William Jones.

He explained how he had undertaken research on the life of Mr Jones over the last 12 months and had uncovered a number of new aspects about him, his family, his role as a major Conservative politician and proprietor of the Black Ox Bank.

Alan Leech said that it was clear William Jones had, over many years in the middle and latter years of the 19th century, been one of the predominant forces in administering and shaping the development of Lampeter.

He was the first Mayor of the newly incorporated Lampeter in 1884.

Mr Leech said he had identified and accessed the UK Parliamentary Archives and discovered a disputed prenuptial “agreement” between them.

He has written a new book about Mr Jones entitled William Jones: Politics Glandenys and the Lovers Graves which is available locally.

The next meeting will a Christmas social, with a quiz, on the 19th December.
