THE latest community news from Llanafan

WI

ON Friday, 29 June, Llanafan WI welcomed members of the local community as well as members of other WIs from the surrounding area and beyond to Lisburne Hall, for their Centenary coffee evening.

This is an annual event which followed a traditional pattern, but was in fact the second event this year organized to mark the Centenary – the first being an evening in May, again for both local people and other WI’s to hear a talk by Gerald Morgan on Llanafan.

There are two more events planned: Llanafan WI meets in The Cottage regularly and an archive week will be held there throughout the first week of September to show off the WI’s extensive archive as well as The Cottage itself.

The WI Cottage in Llanafan is the last remaining traditional Welsh cottage in Ceredigion to be used for meetings, and has been used continually since the WI was founded in 1918 when the Lisburne family gave the cottage for WI use.

Llanafan WI will revert to Lisburne Hall at the end of November for the last event of the year’s celebrations – a Centenary dinner which members of the Lisburne family plan to attend along with Ceredigion MP Ben Lake and other guests.
