THE latest community news from Llanbadarn Fawr
St Padarn’s
THURSDAY night bell-ringing practices will continue to be held on most Thursdays throughout the summer, and every Sunday morning there is service ringing before the 10am Welsh service.
No less than five local people have, for the past few months, been learning how to ring and all of them are now getting to the stage of being able to ring on Sunday mornings.
They were delighted with their welcome to the tower and the progress they have made to become fully fledged ringers.
Tower captain Bob McIntyre said he would be very pleased to welcome a few more aspiring ringers. Anyone interested will be warmly welcomed to the tower during the Thursday evening practices from 7.30pm to 9pm.
Although still singing at the 11.15am Sunday morning service, choristers are now enjoying a well-earned break from Thursday evening choir practices until the beginning of September when they will restart and focus on the music for A Choral Evensong for the Harvest Festival at the beginning of October.
At the start of last Sunday’s Choral Eucharist, boy treble Jonathan Wang was admitted to full membership of the choir and was presented to Rev Lynn Rees.
After answering a number of questions from him, he was presented with his surplice by organist and choir master Darryl Walters.
St Padarn’s will very much be a part of the 2017 MusicFest Fringe.
On Friday morning this week at 11am, a story walk will leave Aberystwyth Arts Centre to progress to the church.
The walkers will hear the story of Mr Salter and the music of Llanbadarn, and local storyteller Peter Stevenson will be performing medieval music in the church from 11.30am to midday with Deuair.
Sunday, 30 July, is the seventh Sunday after Trinity and the fifth Sunday of the month and there are a number of changes to the services.
There will be no 8am Communion service, and the 10am Welsh service will start earlier than usual at 9.45am. The earlier start to the Welsh service will enable both congregations to enjoy tea and coffee together in the hall before the English service.
Services, therefore, are as follows: 9.45am, Cymun Bendigaid; 11.15am, Choral Eucharist. All are welcome to the services.
