THE latest community news from Llanbadarn Fawr
Services
LAST Sunday’s 11.15am Choral Matins included the welcoming into the family of Christ’s Church by Baptism, of Jenna Louise McNicholls-Vale, and a goodly turnout of the family and friends resulted in a very large congregation and a particularly enjoyable service.
Jenna was baptised by Rev Andrew Loat. This Thursday, 24 August is the Feast of St Bartholomew and it will be commemorated with an Eucharist at 10am.
After this the church is holding a Gift Day which it is hoped will help replenish its reserves.
All parishioners and friends of the church are being invited to make a special effort to contribute to it.
Sunday, 27 August, is the 11th after Trinity and the fourth Sunday of the month. Services will be: 8am – Holy Communion using the 1984 Red Book setting; 10am – Cymun Bendigaid; and 11.15am – Choral Eucharist.
Bell ringing
THIS year St Padarn’s has been the focus of the celebrations marking the 1,500th anniversary of the arrival of St Padarn in North Ceredigion.
Saturday, 19 August saw a very experienced band of 10 ringers, mainly from Newport and Cardiff, in the Llanbadarn Tower to ring a full peal on the 10 bells to commemorate the anniversary.
They rang a full peal of Swindon Surprise Royal in three hrs and 11 minutes and the conductor was Helen Phillips, the sister of Gareth Dancer one of the Llanbadarn Towers stalwarts.
Church Choir
THE CHOIR has continued to lead the 11.15am choral services throughout the holiday period albeit with depleted ranks.
Contralto Veronica Allen spent of all last week in Coventry Cathedral as part of the large choir which spent the week rehearsing and finally performing Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius – an experience she thoroughly enjoyed.
Practices in Llanbadarn restart at 6pm on Thursday, 31 August and organist and choirmaster Darryl Walters, will immediately be getting down to practicing the music for a Harvest Festival Evensong early in October.
New choristers in all four voices would be very welcome in the choir, and anyone interested will be warmly welcomed at that first practice.
