St Padarn’s

LAST Sunday evening, a good number of the ringers enjoyed a harvest supper at the home of Julie and John Gilbey in Comins Coch.

As many members of the English congregation often comment that they never hear the bells – as they are rung before the Welsh service on Sunday mornings – the ringers plan to ring before the harvest festival choral evensong next Sunday from 3.30pm.

On Sunday, 8 October, is the 17th Sunday of Trinity and the congregations will be celebrating the harvest festival. The church will be specially decorated for the occasion on the Saturday morning by a team led by Rita Roberts.

The harvest services will be at: 8am, Holy Communion using the 1984 Red Book setting; 10am, Welsh Harvest Communion.

There will be no 11.15am English service. This will be replaced by a choral evensong for harvest at 4pm. It will be led by an augmented church choir of over 20 voices, directed by Darryl Walters and accompanied by Ian Rees on the organ.

Magnificat and Nunc Dimittus will be sung to a setting by Brewer in D, and the anthem will be The Heavens are Telling the Glories of God from Haydn’s Creation.

The preacher will be Rev Huw Anderson, St David’s Diocesan Missioner.

The evensong will be followed by a Bring and Share Tea in the church hall. All are welcome to the harvest festival services.
