THE latest community news from Llanbrynmair

Llanbrynmair Clwb-y-Ddol

At their July meeting, members of Llanbrynmair Clwb-y-Ddol, very much enjoyed a presentation by Lily Brooks on ‘Broken China Mosaics’.

Before introducing her, vice-chairman Margaret Parker said that the club’s chairman Gaynor Breese was unwell and best wishes were sent for a speedy recovery.

Lily showed examples of the mosaics she made from small broken pieces of china.

These included pictures of flowers and animals, stands for displays and other small and large objects which had inspired the design through their shape and texture.

It so happened that behind Lily, high on the wall of the Community Centre hall where the meeting was being held, there is a particularly fine piece of mosaic work which was created as a community project over 20 years ago.

It was designed by Chris Smith who lives in Bont Dolgadfan and she led the project, involving as many local people as she could find.

Lily was much impressed by this and with the story of how it was made.

Lily was warmly thanked by the vice-chairman.

Secretary Frances Fenwick announced the arrangements for the summer outing to Llandudno on 31 August and later collected the names of people who wished to go. Members then adjourned for an excellent tea, provided and served by Judy Allday, Maureen Berry, Moyra Davies and Beti Owen.

The winners of the raffle were Bernard Davies and Mrs Young.
