Walkers are Welcome

LLANDYSUL’S highest peak is Pencoed-y-Foel, on top of which are the remains of an Iron Age-defended enclosure.

This site is not usually accessible to the public, but Llandysul & Pont-Tyweli Walkers are Welcome group were able to arrange access recently on what proved to be a beautiful clear evening.

Meeting at the Llandysul Paddlers, where the summer river festival was in full swing, the usual group of walkers were joined by visitors to the river festival.

Tom Cowcher, chairman of the Walkers are Welcome group led the walk, which went through the Woodland Trust land at Coed y Foel and then on to private farmland.

This was a great opportunity to stand within the Iron Age enclosure at the top, and appreciate the spectacular views in all directions.

The walk finished back at the Paddlers for refreshments.

The next event arranged by Llandysul and Pont-Tyweli Walkers are Welcome is the Llandysul Walking Weekend from Friday, 29 September, to Sunday, 1 October.

Seven walks have been arranged for the weekend. Walkers and non-walkers alike can enjoy a Twmpath on the Saturday night and Welsh tea on the Sunday afternoon to finish off the weekend.

Full details of the walking weekend are available at www.llandysul-ponttyweli.co.uk or by calling 01559 362403.
