AT the January WI meeting Debbie White of Cellan treated the members to a mystery evening of fun, games and puzzles to solve.
Christmas Activities
FOR a number of years, volunteer singers have travelled around the village in the period just prior to Christmas.
However, this activity had to be cancelled this year due to adverse weather conditions and general illness within the village.
Nevertheless, a grand total of £460 was collected, in spite of the difficulties, £160 from the combined efforts of the chapel and the church and the remaining £300 from donations made directly in the shop.
This money will be divided between the Village Defibrillator Fund and the hospital Special Care Baby Unit in recognition of their role in the care of baby Ada, daughter of former hall treasurer.
It has been decided to change the format for 2018, perhaps inviting people to the hall in order to enjoy the usual festivities along with carol singing, and perhaps accompanied by some of the local musicians.
Litter initiative
UNDER the auspices of the Village Hall Committee several dozen people gathered, on a Sunday morning early in January, and with black rubbish bags walked along all the roads in Llanfair picking up discarded rubbish, paper litter, plastic containers and any old bottles located.
The many bags of rubbish this activity produced were taken to the hall’s car park for assembling and then taking to the refuse disposal centre in Lampeter.
After the rubbish collection, everyone enjoyed brunch in the hall.
Fibre broadband
THE long awaited arrival of super fast fibre broadband for Llanfair has occurred.
Yet, availability of the fibre to the premises (FTTP) broadband scheme is limited to only those properties for which the infrastructure company Openreach has put in place the fibre cables in the road nearby.
For many properties this cabling work has not taken place and a number of people have been in contact with MP Ben Lake to ask for assistance in getting connected.
Computer skills development
THE class training individuals in the development of their computer skills has resumed.
Led by teacher Helen Thomas some eight people have been attending classes in the village hall where there is free Wi-fi.
