Talk

LLANIDLOES will celebrate its ‘hippy heritage’ with a talk and exhibition about how 1970s radical ideas shaped life in mid Wales.

Compton’s Yard Charitable Trust will be hosting a free talk by Flossie Baldock from Countercultural Cymru at Aberystwyth University, at the Great Oak Café on Thursday, 28 June, from 7pm until 9pm.

Flossie set up Countercultural Cymru as a research project to collect the stories and experiences people who moved to rural mid Wales in the late ‘60s and ‘70s and to understand better the impact of this “alternative” movement.

The Great Oak Café and Compton’s Yard Charitable Trust have been running for over 35 years and are a well-established part of local life thanks to the generosity of the late Nick Saunders.

Nick was a prominent member of the UK’s countercultural scene in the 1970s. His vision and generosity created Neal’s Yard in London’s Covent Garden and Compton’s Yard.
